Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is an
amusement park which is man-made island with many leisure facilities in the
middle of Tokyo Bay, Japan based on motifs inspired from the sea. In addition
to Eastern Japan's only display of whale sharks, there are 3 different
aquariums filled with 500 species - 100,000 aquatic creatures, a theme park for
attractions people of all ages can enjoy, restaurants, and a bay market where
you can enjoy shopping. The "Touch and learn lagoon" where you can
come into direct contact with creatures of the sea is very popular.
The
most enjoyable attractions in Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise are the Aqua
Resorts and the rides of Pleasure Land.
Aqua Resorts consists of :
Aqua Museum
At the Aqua Museum, one of Japan's largest aquariums, there are 500 different species/100,000 aquatic animals including polar bears, walruses, sharks and sardines. One huge fish tank holds two whale sharks, the largest extant fish species. Aqua Museum is a conventional aquarium where visitors are able to view walruses, dolphins, sea lions, seals, polar bears, whale sharks, giant turtles, sea otters and many other sea creatures. There are also daily marine mammals shows in which animals put on a series of performances.
Dolphin Fantasy
Dolphin Fantasy features a big arch-shaped pool surrounding a tunnel. Visitors can walk through the tunnel and watch as dolphins, stingrays and other fish swim in the pool around them.
FUREAI Lagoon
The "FUREAI (touch and learn)
Lagoon" consists of the "whale ocean" tank where the dolphins
swim, the "sakana reef" where species of aquatic animals found in
Tokyo bay are kept, and the "hireashi beach" where you can observe
seals and walruses. The unique display methods allow visitors to physically
interact with the animals. For an additional fee,
guided tours (which promise greater interaction with the animals, for example,
feeding) and souvenir picture taking can be arranged.
Pleasure Land
Pleasure Land is the section of the park with amusement rides for all ages. Some of the attractions include the Blue Fall, which lets you experience the thrill of free-fall from a height of 107 meters; the Surf Coaster, a roller coaster that includes a loop over the sea; and the Merry-go-round, a large carousel which becomes especially charming when the illuminations come on in the evenings.
